Most traditional MES systems interact with an ERP on two paths, namely:
- Getting the Production Order/Request from the ERP system, executing it within the Plant Floor
- Sending information pertaining to production performance to the ERP system.
Both the above paths are well established, and are supported by the S95/B2MML Standard for exchange of information. Performix xMES™ introduces a third data path between SAP and itself, namely the Master Data Path. Through this path, it downloads the entire Plant Model and Materials, Equipment, Recipes, and Resource information. Having a Master Data Path completely eliminates the need for creating a 'Production Model' within Performix xMES™.
This has two extremely desirable effects:
- It drastically reduces the time taken for the Performix xMES™ system to go live, since most of the configuration done in SAP is reused, rather than recreated within the MES system.
- It completely eliminates the concerns associated with keeping the SAP system and the MES system in sync with each other with respect to Master Data. This in turn further reduces the 'service hours' required to maintain Performix xMES™.
The net effect is a system that gives extremely rapid deployment, and extremely low maintenance cost. |
